III. Can(n)ibal 2017

"This thing of darkness I acknowledge mine."

– William Shakespeare, The Tempest
(Act 5, Scene 1)

Can(n)ibal Statement

Compelled by an inner drive, I transform these images—captured on the Pororari River's edge, where morning light and mist stirred with forested cliffs—immersing them in shadow and darkness. The process is both unsettling and oddly freeing, leaving me with persistent questions. Why this urge for change? My mind draws a link to Caliban, a character in Shakespeare’s The Tempest—a complex figure, shaped by both darkness and light, embodying fear and fascination. His words anchor me as I navigate my alchemy, invoking shadows to touch upon what's hidden within the landscapes and within me, inviting a dialogue with my own inner tempests. "Be not afeared…"

I think Punturiero is also asking that the viewer be sensitive enough to look deeply at her images, to see the details she has included in the frame and to consider “feeling” what they are seeing.
